Enjoy the golden age of rail travel on this charming short break in north Wales. Staying for four nights at the Celtic Royal Hotel, within walking distance of Caernarfon's walled town, you'll enjoy an excursion on the Snowdon Mountain and Llanberis Lake Railways, as well as two other memorable Welsh rail journeys.

The Snowdon Mountain Railway's traditional rack and pinion climbs to 3,493 feet (1,085 metres) above sea level for a panoramic view over Snowdonia National Park, recently voted the best view in Britain. The Llanberis Lake Railway, which you'll return on, follows the shore of Lake Padarn and boasts great views of the rolling landscape.

Other journeys include the Ffestiniog Railway, the world's oldest narrow-gauge railway, and the Welsh Highland Railway, which runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foothills of Snowdon and the Aberglaslyn Pass to Porthmadog. You'll visit the Italianate village of Portmeirion plus Betws-y-Coed, the principal village of Snowdonia National Park.

Visitors have been travelling to Llanberis since 1896 to experience this unique rail journey up the highest mountain in England and Wales. Enjoy chugging up the mountainside through Snowdonia National Park and enjoy panoramic views of the countryside from inside your comfortable carriage.

Portmeirion is an enchanting place to visit. Enjoy lunch in one of the restaurants (not included) and spend time wandering around this beautiful yet bizarre pastel-coloured village.

Travel on two of the most picturesque railways in the world: the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways. You'll also visit quaint Betws-y-Coed in the heart of the Conwy Valley.

You'll stay at the Celtic Royal Hotel, walking distance to Caernarfon Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel dates back to 1800, yet boasts modern rooms and a spa with a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, bubble pool and gym.
